Why transformers are rated in kva instade of kw?

Normally, current and voltage in a transformer are out of phase. To get the magnitude of the current that can pass through the transformer you need to know the kVA rating. If you only know the kW rating and the phase angle is large, the actual current required to get the kW would be much higher than if the current were in phase with the voltage.
